Sir Gordon Tietjens: 'All eyes on 2016 Rio Olympics'

New Zealand rugby sevens head coach Sir Gordon Tietjens turns his attention to the 2016 Rio Olympics having won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

New Zealand rugby sevens head coach Sir Gordon Tietjens has said that his attention will now turn to the Olympics having seen his side win silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The All Blacks tasted defeat at the Commonwealths for the very first time as South Africa held on for a historic 17-12 victory in last night's gold medal match at Ibrox.

The sport is expected to gain popularity in the coming years due to it's introduction to the Olympics in 2016, and Tietjens is already looking forward to taking the reigning IRB World Series and World Cup champions to Rio.

"[Rio] certainly is [the focus now]. Qualifying first, that's going to be hugely important for us in the World Series year. We'll look to qualify and then start looking at the Olympics," he told Sports Mole.

Tietjens is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in rugby history having won 12 World Series titles and two World Cups since the turn of the century.
