Danny Cipriani hopeful of England recall

Danny Cipriani hopes that his form for Sale Sharks this season could earn him an England recall for the tour of New Zealand after six years out of the international side.

Danny Cipriani is hopeful that his form for Sale Sharks this season will be enough to persuade England's selectors to recall him after six years in the wilderness.

The fly-half shot onto the international scene as a 21-year-old, but only made seven appearances before several counts of ill-discipline saw him axed.

Stuart Lancaster is believed to be considering him for the England squad for the tour of New Zealand in June, with the first Test likely to feature a weakened lineup as it comes only a week after the Aviva Premiership final.

Cipriani is optimistic that this may open the door for his international return and a possible World Cup selection.

"It all depends how the coaches look at it, there will be latecomers into the squad and there will be people who are new because of the way the Premiership is laid out for the rest of the season," he told BBC Sport.

"This would be a good time to start, for the World Cup, to try to get back into the squad. But we have two games left this season to put in a performance for the boys who are leaving.

"We've got to show them the respect they deserve, and then after that perhaps we can talk and discuss that. And hopefully my form's been consistent enough throughout the season to warrant a place."

Former England international Austin Healey has tipped Cipriani, 26, to be recalled by his country.
