Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane says that the side responded well after Widnes Vikings coach Denis Betts said that they were afraid.

Shaun Wane has said that comments made by the Widnes Vikings coach this week gave Wigan Warriors extra focus in their Super League match yesterday.

Denis Betts said that Warriors were "afraid" after they blocked the Vikings from fielding Gareth Hock, who is on loan at the club from Wigan.

The Wigan coach told Sky Sports News: "The challenge was laid down in the week and they took it on board. Some things were said which made it easy for me. It helped our preparation.

"I don't think you could say anyone in my team is scared of anybody. Those childish comments hurt my players. They were really focused going into the game.

"What they did today was how they practised all week. We were ruthless in how we attacked. It was a great win but I'm not going to get carried away."

Wigan went on to win the match 62-4.
