Huddersfield Giants prove too strong for Widnes Vikings

Huddersfield Giants move up to fourth place in the Super League table, courtesy of a 30-22 victory over Widnes Vikings at the Select Security Stadium.

Huddersfield Giants have inflicted a third-successive Super League defeat on Widnes Vikings by claiming a 30-22 victory at the Select Security Stadium.

Things started badly for the visitors, as Patrick Ah Van collected Kevin Brown's pass to race through and cross over just eight minutes in, before Brett Feres was shown his marching orders for punching Rhys Hanbury.

The scoreline remained tight throughout the opening 30 minutes, Ukuma Ta'ai touching down for the only other points in the opening half-hour of the clash.

Widnes made the man advantage count, however, scoring once more prior to the interval thanks to Jack Owens who went over in the corner.

A frantic opening to the second half saw the two sides share a try apiece, as replacement Craig Kopczak crashed over to level things up, shortly before Brown put the Vikings back ahead.

Huddersfield pushed on in the 30 minutes, both Jack Hughes and Luke Robinson finding the whitewash to gain some breathing space for their side.

Jodie Broughton was the next to touch down, racing 50 metres after taking an offload from Joe Wardle to put Huddersfield well on their way, and while Brown did bag a personal double, it was not enough to halt the victorious Giants.

The Claret and Golds are now up to fourth place in the Super League table, while Widnes are down in ninth.
