Hull KR are denied a famous comeback as they are beaten 34-28 by St Helens at Langtree Park.

Hull KR were denied a famous comeback as they were beaten 34-28 by St Helens at Langtree Park this evening.

A fifth-minute try from Jonny Lomax got the hosts underway before Thomas Makinson kicked over the first of three conversions.

It got better for the Saints soon after as Paul Wellens touched down twice to stretch their lead.

The home side looked out of sight with 24 minutes played when two more tries from Josh Jones made it 26-0.

Hull launched their fightback before the break through Scott Taylor's try.

Sam Latus then went over twice before the half-time whistle to cut the deficit as Michael Dobson kicked over two conversions.

Hull edged closer to their opponents on 49 minutes as Taylor bagged his second try of the match before Blake Green got on the scoresheet to put the visitors in front. Dobson was successful with his two kicks as Hull looked on course for a memorable win.

However, St Helens snatched the victory in the final 10 minutes thanks to tries from Anthony Laffranchi and Tony Puletua.
