St. Helens RLFC have beaten fierce rivals Leeds Rhinos 31-18 in an entertaining Super League contest at Headingly tonight.
The hosts took an early lead courtesy of a 12th-minute Danny McGuire try that was converted by Keith Sinfield.
The scores were levelled less than 10 minutes later when Thomas Makinson kicked successfully following the first of Jamie Lomax's double.
Paul Wellens crossed to put St. Helens ahead but a Brett Delaney effort minutes before the break meant the teams entered half time at 12 apiece.
After taking the lead and then falling behind, the Rhinos went in front once more when Jamie Jones-Buchanan touched down after the interval, but tries from Makinson and Lomax gave St. Helens a 22-18 advantage in an end-to-end encounter.
Victory was ensured for the visitors when Jon Wilkin crossed late on and a Lomax drop goal rounded off an impressive 31-18 win for the Saints.
