Preview: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Watford

Sports Mole gazes ahead to Saturday's Championship match at Molineux as Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Watford in a battle between two promotion hopefuls.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will view Saturday's home match against Watford as a must-win game as they hunt down those in the Championship's top six.

Kenny Jackett's side saw their three-game winning streak come to an end as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on Tuesday and now they face another of the sides above them in the running.

Defeat at the Goldsands Stadium saw Wolves remain eighth in the table, four points behind sixth-placed Brentford.

Still, Wolves' form on the whole recently has been good, with four wins in six February games and a 14-5 goal differential earning Jackett a nomination for the division's Manager of the Month.

Bakary Sako's return to form has also helped and the Mali international, who has scored two and assisted one in his last three games against Watford, was yesterday crowned the PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Month.

After three wins in a row and eight in their last 10 games, Watford's chances of automatic promotion have drastically improved.

Only goal difference keeps Slavisa Jokanovic's side out of the top two and they are just a point behind league leaders Middlesbrough in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely-contested races for the Premier League in recent memory.

Like Jackett, Jokanovic is also up for Manager of the Month after five wins in six in February and Watford also have a striker contesting the Player of the Month gong.

Odion Ighalo continued his fine start to 2015 and receives a second straight nomination after six goals in five games last month.

However, he missed Saturday's win at Leeds United and then was used as a substitute in Tuesday night's slim victory over Fulham, meaning that he might have to settle for a place on the bench again.

Wolves' recent home record against Watford is extremely strong as they have lost just one of the last 16 meetings.

The reverse fixture on Boxing Day also went in Wolves' favour as Nouha Dicko's second-half strike settled matters at Vicarage Road.
