Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has accepted Wigan Athletic's apology over the Antolin Alcaraz spitting incident.
The Latics defender has been suspended for three matches by the Football Association after he spat at Wolves' Richard Spearman during a game last weekend.
"What happened is unacceptable," said McCarthy. "I have spoken to Roberto [Martinez] and he apologised on behalf of the club.
"I don't think it is indicative of Wigan, of Roberto or [the club owner] Dave Whelan. They are lovely people, a lovely club, and I think [Alcaraz] has just made a mistake.
"I don't know where it came from but he's made a stupid mistake and got punished with a ban, and we all think that is right."
Wolves, who are currently 13th in the Premier League table, travel to Everton after the international break.
