Half-Time Report: Dave Edwards puts Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead at Birmingham City

Dave Edwards fires Wolverhampton Wanderers into the lead in their Championship clash with local rivals Birmingham City.

Dave Edwards's early strike has given Wolverhampton Wanderers a half-time lead in their West Midlands derby with Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

After a quiet opening, the game burst into life after 12 minutes when Wolves took the lead through Edwards, who was well placed to convert the rebound after Tomasz Kuszczak had made the block from Benik Afobe.

The goal came after indecision inside the Birmingham penalty area, and two minutes later, Wolves almost benefited again after a mix-up between Kuszczak and Paul Robinson, but the ball went wide of the target.

Just before the half-hour mark, Wolves almost doubled their lead as Nathan Byrne's curling effort drifted just wide as Kuszczak scrambled across his goal.

Moments later, Birmingham were appealing for offside as Edwards broke through. The goalscorer found James Henry, who fired a low shot, which Kuszczak was able to save comfortably.

City managed to apply pressure late in the half, when Paul Caddis fired over before Stephen Gleeson missed the target with a 25-yard volley as Wolves managed to reach the interval ahead.
