Dieter Hecking insists that West Ham United youngster Reece Oxford wants to "continue playing football" at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Dieter Hecking has claimed that Reece Oxford wants to "continue playing football" at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 19-year-old has made four appearances while on loan at Gladbach this season is now back at West Ham United after being recalled over the festive period.

Hammers boss David Moyes, who is overseeing a relegation battle at the London Stadium, revealed that he "wants to take a look" at Oxford and is confident that the club "can help improve him".

However, Gladbach are reportedly interested in recruiting Oxford on a permanent deal, with head coach Hecking appearing to suggest that a bid for the 19-year-old has already been made.

"The ball is now with West Ham and Reece made a clear statement saying he would like to continue playing football in Gladbach and I personally believe that would be the best for his development," Hecking is quoted by Kicker as saying.

"As far as I am informed, there will be another crucial meeting in West Ham today, and then we will have clarity tonight and tomorrow, I will sit down with Max Eberl (Gladbach sporting director) to discuss the situation."

The England Under-20 international, who is also believed to be on the radar of RB Leipzig, signed a new West Ham contract just over a year ago that tied him to the club until 2021.
