Torquay United fight back to beat Wrexham

A late Luke Young goal earns Torquay United a 2-1 victory over Wrexham in the Conference Premier.

Torquay United have overturned a half-time deficit to record a 2-1 victory over Wrexham to move into third place in the Conference Premier table.

In a frantic opening 10 minutes at Plainmoor, both teams had chances to take an early lead, with Toby Ajala pulling the ball wide for Torquay before Blaine Hudson did the same at the other end for Wrexham.

However, as the game began to settle down, it was the visitors who looked the more threatening, with Manny Smith having a header strike the post, and their pressure paid off just before the half-hour mark as they took the lead.

Louis Moult charged down a clearance by the goalkeeper before keeping his composure to put the ball into an empty net for his sixth goal of the campaign.

Wrexham pushed for a second after the restart, with Wes York going close after being teed up by Connor Jennings, but Torquay equalised when Louis Briscoe's low effort beat Daniel Bachmann.

The former Mansfield Town winger almost netted a second shortly afterwards, but on this occasion Bachmann was equal to it, and Wrexham survived again with 10 minutes left when Luke Young struck the post from a free kick.

However, Young made amends for that miss by giving Torquay the lead with six minutes left with a fantastic strike from 25 yards that hit the inside of the post on its way into the net.

Wrexham pushed for a late equaliser after six minutes were added on, but despite their best efforts, Torquay held on to extend their unbeaten home record to seven games.
