Sydney FC edge out Perth Glory

Goals from Ranko Despotovic and Terry Antonis help Sydney FC record a 2-1 victory over Perth Glory in the A-League.

Sydney FC have moved into sixth place in the A-League standings by earning a 2-1 victory against Perth Glory.

Ranko Despotovic and Terry Antonis gave the home side a comfortable lead, and although the deficit was halved by Rostyn Griffiths, Sydney held on to secure the three points.

The hosts opened the scoring after 17 minutes when Alessandro Del Piero released the advancing Despotovic, who managed to poke the ball home past the goalkeeper.

Perth saw several shots cleared off the line as they searched for an equaliser, but the home side doubled their lead through a superb individual effort from Antonis, who moved past a couple of opposition players before curling the ball into the corner.

The visitors hit straight back through a header from Griffiths, and although Aaron Calver was dismissed late on, Sydney held on to move past Wellington Phoenix in the table.
