Alessandro Del Piero starts in Melbourne Victory rout

Alessandro Del Piero bags a brace as Sydney FC cruise to a 5-0 victory away to Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

Alessandro Del Piero bagged a brace as Sydney FC coasted to a 5-0 win away to Melbourne Victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Ranko Despotovic opened the scoring for the visitors after 11 minutes, expertly controlling an over-the-top pass before unleashing a left-footed drive past Victory shot-stopper Nathan Coe.

The Serbian turned provider by earning a penalty after going down under a challenge from Adrian Leijer in the area and Del Piero kept his cool from 12 yards to convert it.

Frank Farina's men trebled their advantage just five minutes later through Sebastian Ryall, who danced through the Melbourne defence before slotting past Coe to provide the hosts with an uphill task.

The Juventus legend secured his double nine minutes into the second half when a poor clearance from Coe allowed Despotovic to square the ball to the veteran marksman to smash home his side's fourth of the morning.

Nick Carle was on hand in the final three minutes to add a fifth as Farina's team move fourth in the A-League standings.
