Sydney FC hold Adelaide United to draw

A Corey Gameiro goal rescues a 2-2 draw for 10-man Sydney FC in their A-League clash against Adelaide United.

Adelaide United and Sydney FC have played out a 2-2 draw in the A-League at the Hindmarsh Stadium this morning.

A goal from Corey Gameiro with eight minutes remaining rescued a point for 10-man Sydney, which keeps them sixth in the standings.

Sydney began the match brightly and were rewarded in the ninth minute when Ranko Despotovic gave them the lead after a good team move.

The hosts levelled the scoring in the 24th minute through Fabio Ferreira, who fired home after being set up by Steven Lustica.

Sydney were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when Nick Carle picked up his second booking of the match.

Adelaide looked to have secured victory when Jake Barker-Daish put them 2-1 ahead from the penalty spot with 18 minutes remaining. However, the visitors levelled matters once more through Gameiro, who headed home Nikola Petkovic's cross.

Gameiro almost had the chance to win the match for Sydney soon after, but Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic smothered the striker's effort after he had been played through on goal.
