Sports Mole looks at the projected Euro 2024 last 16 ties with things as they currently stand in each group, including the best third-placed teams.

A total of 11 last-16 places have now been sealed at Euro 2024, with hosts Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, England, France, Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia, Denmark and Portugal all booking their spots in the knockout stages of the continental gathering.

The top two in all six groups will definitely be present in the next round, while there will also be positions in the next stage for the four best third-placed outfits at the competition. Groups A B, C and D have now been concluded, leaving fates to be sealed in just Groups E and F.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the current Euro 2024 group standings, which nations are set to qualify for the knockout rounds, including the best third-placed teams, and the projected last 16 and quarter-final ties.

EURO 2024 GROUP A STANDINGS

Euro 2024 Group A final

Who has qualified from Group A?

Germany, Switzerland

Germany became the first team to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2024 after following up their thumping 5-1 win over Scotland with a 2-0 victory against Hungary in their second Group A clash on June 19.

Die Mannschaft simply needed to avoid defeat against Switzerland on the final matchday to guarantee their status as group winners, although that was under severe threat by Dan Ndoye's strike before Niclas Fullkrug made himself the hero of the hour in second-half injury time.

As a result, Julian Nagelsmann's men head to the last 16 in first place with their unbeaten record intact - boasting seven points compared to five for Switzerland, who finished two better off than Hungary in third slot.

The Magyars also left it incredibly late to eliminate Scotland via a 1-0 triumph on Sunday, potentially keeping themselves alive via the third-placed lottery route as the one-point Scots suffered yet another major tournament disappointment.

EURO 2024 GROUP B STANDINGS

Euro 2024 Group B final

Who has qualified from Group B?

Spain, Italy

Spain have progressed to the last 16 with a perfect record, following up a 3-0 victory over Croatia with back-to-back 1-0 successes over Italy and Albania, beating the latter on Monday night courtesy of a first-half strike from Ferran Torres.

Luis de la Fuente's side finish top of the group with a maximum nine points, five clear of second-placed Italy, who scored a dramatic 98th-minute equaliser to rescue a precious point in a 1-1 draw with Croatia to advance automatically to the last 16.

Croatia, meanwhile, sit third with only two points and must hope that Group C leaders England beat Slovenia by at least three goals if they are to stand a chance of securing one of the four best third-placed spots up for grabs.

As for Albania, they sit at the foot of Group B and have been knocked out of Euro 2024 after picking up just one point across their three group fixtures.

EURO 2024 GROUP C STANDINGS

Euro 2024 Group C (25/06)

Who has qualified from Group C?

England, Denmark, Slovenia

Thanks to Spain beating Albania in their final Group B fixture, England have now qualified for the last 16 and were guaranteed to secure at least one of the four best third-placed spots.

The Three Lions simply needed to avoid defeat against Slovenia and hope that Denmark did not beat Serbia on the final matchday to top the group, two scenarios which came to fruition in drab goalless draws across the board.

However, those results meant that Denmark and sneaked through in second and Slovenia would finish as one of the best third-placed sides, triggering wild celebrations from their elated players.

EURO 2024 GROUP D STANDINGS

Euro 2024 Group D (25/06)

Who has qualified from Group D?

Austria, France, Netherlands

Just like England, both the Netherlands and France qualified for the last 16 courtesy of Spain's Group B win over Albania, but the two European giants still had top spot to fight for on matchday three.

In a surprise turn of events, though, it was Austria who pipped both sides to the post with a sensational 3-2 beating of the Netherlands, thereby topping the group with six points and forcing the Dutch to accept a third-placed ranking.

Meanwhile, France's 1-1 draw with already-eliminated Poland meant that the 2018 world champions had to settle for second, despite going through the group phase unbeaten.

EURO 2024 GROUP E STANDINGS

Euro 2024 Group E (22/06)

Who will qualify from Group E as things stand?

Romania, Belgium

Belgium were regarded by many as strong favourites to finish top of Group E, but they found themselves playing catch-up after suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to Slovakia in their opening fixture of Euro 2024.

The same could be said for Ukraine, who were put to the sword 3-0 by an impressive Romania outfit just a few hours earlier, with Edward Iordanescu's side moving to the top of the group.

However, Ukraine recorded a huge 2-1 victory over Slovakia on June 21 to move onto three points and rise into second position behind Romania.

The group took another twist on June 22, with Belgium, who are now second, beating Romania 2-0, meaning that all three teams in the section are on three points heading into the final two matches on June 26.

EURO 2024 GROUP F STANDINGS

Euro 2024 Group F (22/06)

Who will qualify from Group F as things stand?

Portugal, Turkey

Concluding the first round of Euro 2024 group fixtures on June 18, Turkey survived a handful of scares against Georgia but eventually emerged triumphant via a 3-1 scoreline, thanks partly to a spectacular effort from Real Madrid teenager Arda Guler.

As Portugal could only scrape a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic later in the day, Turkey did hold the edge over the 2016 champions by virtue of a better goal difference.

However, Martinez's side ran out 3-0 winners in the contest between the top two on June 22, allowing them to secure their position in the round of 16 as Group F winners.

Czech Republic and Georgia, meanwhile, played out a 1-1 draw earlier in the day.

As a result, Turkey need a point against Czech Republic on June 26 to be sure of second spot in the group, but they could potentially go through in third place with three points if they lose.

Czech Republic must beat Turkey to stand a chance of going through, while the same can be said for Georgia, who have to overcome Portugal to be in the argument for a spot in the next round.

July 2: Romania (Group E winner) vs. Slovenia (Best third-place team of Group C/D) (5pm BST | Allianz Arena, Munich)

July 2: Austria vs. Turkey (Group F runner-up) (8pm BST | Red Bull Arena, Leipzig)

The first last 16 tie was officially confirmed a few days ago, with Group A runners-up Switzerland set to take on holders and Group B runners-up Italy in Berlin on Saturday.

Tuesday evening saw the second battle rubber-stamped between Group A winners Germany and Group C runners-up Denmark, but there are still many unknowns to be discovered on the final matchday in the groups.

As things stand, England face a daunting last-16 tie against the Netherlands, but the Three Lions could also meet the third-placed side in Group E, whose winners will take on Slovenia while the runners-up - currently Belgium - meet France.

As Group D winners, Austria appear set for a date with Turkey should they hold their runners-up position in Group F.

EURO 2024 QUARTER-FINAL LINEUP AS THINGS STAND

July 5: Spain or Slovakia (Best third-place team of Group E/F) vs. Germany or Denmark (5pm BST | MHPArena, Stuttgart)

July 5: Portugal or Hungary (Best third-place team of Group A/C) vs. France or Belgium (Group E runner-up) (8pm BST | Volksparkstadion, Hamburg)

July 6: England or Netherlands (Best third-place team of Group D/E) vs. Switzerland or Italy (5pm BST | Merkur Spiel-Arena, Dusseldorf)

July 6: Romania (Group E winner) or Slovenia (Best third-place team of Group C/D) vs. Austria or Turkey (Group F runner-up) (5pm BST | Olympiastadion, Berlin)

Group winners Germany and Spain would both be fancied to advance from the last-16 stage, which would set up an intriguing quarter-final showdown between the pair of three-time Euros winners, who sealed their last-16 spots with a game to spare.

If England were to win their last-16 tie, they could then be faced with a quarter-final encounter against Switzerland or Italy, the latter of whom beat the Three Lions in the Euro 2020 final on penalties.

Should Romania finish the job by qualifying from their group in first place, and then progress beyond the last-16 stage, an intriguing encounter with Austria or Turkey could await, meaning at least one unexpected semi-finalist at this year's tournament.
