Swansea City have reportedly told Newcastle United to cough up £10m if they intend to sign centre-back Federico Fernandez before the transfer window closes.
The Magpies have been reluctant to spend big on any players this summer, to the annoyance of manager Rafael Benitez, and are running out of time to complete their business.
Ahead of Thursday's deadline, Wales Online suggests that United have been left frustrated in their pursuit of Fernandez, whom Championship side Swansea are reluctant to offload on the cheap.
Newcastle are believed to have already had a loan bid rejected, and they are not expected to go any higher than £3m with their offer for the 32-cap Argentina international.
Swansea have already lost Kyle Bartley and Alfie Mawson since being relegated from the Premier League and are not in need of the cash from Fernandez's sale.
The 26-year-old is also a confirmed target for Russian side FC Krasnodar.
