Gus Poyet 'tells Sunderland he wants manager's job'

Gus Poyet reportedly tells Sunderland that he wants to become Paolo Di Canio's successor at the Stadium of Light.

Former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet has reportedly expressed to Sunderland that he wants to replace Paolo Di Canio at the helm of the Stadium of Light.

The North-East outfit are in the hunt for a new manager following the dismissal of the Italian just five games into the Premier League season.

Poyet is believed to have held talks with the Black Cats, insisting to chairman Ellis Short that he can turn things around, but the club are said to be willing to take their time to find a successor, according to the Irish Independent.

Reports have claimed that Short will speak to other interested parties in the next two days.
