How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Southampton

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for Sunday afternoon's Premier League fixture against Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspur continue their busy early-season schedule with a trip to face Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The implications of the coronavirus pandemic have left Spurs facing a punishing run of fixtures, with games at St Mary's, Leyton Orient and Macedonian side Shkendija all to come within five days of each other.

While Jose Mourinho will naturally look to rotate his squad, the Portuguese is aware that his side can ill-afford to lose a second top-flight game in succession if they want to mount any kind of a title challenge.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how the North London outfit could line up on the South Coast this weekend.

Out: Japhet Tanganga (Thigh)
Doubtful: Serge Aurier (knock)

With Serge Aurier nursing a minor knock, Matt Doherty is likely to continue his run at right-back after signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Having been rested for the game against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in midweek, Toby Alderweireld could return to the starting lineup to take the place of Davinson Sanchez.

Dele Alli also sat out the trip to Bulgaria, but the England international may lose out to Erik Lamela for a place in the number 10 role.

Steven Bergwijn could drop out of the right-midfield spot to accommodate Lucas Moura, although Son Heung-min and Harry Kane will almost certainly retain their spots in the final third.

After his contribution in the Europa League, Tanguy Ndombele may be given the chance to impress alongside former Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield.

Neither Gareth Bale or Sergio Reguilon, likely signings from Real Madrid, will be considered for selection.
