Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino challenges Fernando Llorente and Lucas Moura to take the "massive opportunity" available to them during pre-season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has challenged Fernando Llorente and Lucas Moura to make the most of the "massive opportunity" available to them during pre-season.

Spurs are missing nine players on their pre-season tour of the United States due to their World Cup commitments earlier this summer, but that did not prevent them from coming from behind to thrash Roma 4-1 in San Diego this morning.

Llorente and Lucas both scored first-half braces, with the former in particular having been linked with a move away from the club, and Pochettino suggested that both could still play their way into his thinking for a regular starting role.

"I'm not going to talk about individual situations because if I'm going to talk now about someone I need to speak about everyone," he told reporters.

"I am focusing on trying to work hard, trying to provide the team and every single player with the best tools to improve. Of course I'm happy when the striker scores and finds the net. Both Lucas Moura and Llorente, I am pleased for them. They are working so hard.

"The pre-season is a little bit different to before because of the World Cup and we've got so many players away. But it's a massive opportunity for them to show and fight for a place in the starting XI."

Tottenham's next pre-season game comes against Barcelona in the early hours of Sunday morning.
