Mauricio Pochettino signs new Tottenham Hotspur deal

Mauricio Pochettino signs a contract extension at Tottenham Hotspur that runs until the end of the 2020-21 season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new contract at the club that will see him remain in place until 2021.

The 44-year-old had verbally agreed new terms earlier this month, and pen has now been put to paper on an extended deal.

Pochettino, whose initial contract was due to expire in 2019, guided Tottenham to an unlikely Premier League title challenge this season that fell just short in the end.

The likes of Manchester United and Barcelona have both shown a reported interest in the Argentine, with speculation only intensifying over a potential switch to Old Trafford after a meeting was held with Red Devils managerial legend Sir Alex Ferguson this week.

Any talk over Pochettino departing North London this summer has now come to an end, however, as the former Espanyol boss has officially agreed to remain in place for the next five years.

Speaking to the club's official website, chairman Daniel Levy said: "We've seen Mauricio bring a tremendous spirit and ethos to our club and embrace the attacking style of play with which we have always been associated.

"He's built a squad of youth and experience and this season we've seen football played at the highest level - quite sublime at times. Everyone at the club is delighted he has agreed an extended contract.

"We all look forward to working with him in the coming seasons. I know he is ambitious for our club as we all are."

First-team coaching staff members Jesus Perez, Miguel D'Agostino and Toni Jimenez have also agreed contract extensions at White Hart Lane.
