Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale could miss both Champions League matches against former club Tottenham Hotspur as a result of a calf injury.

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale could miss his side's Champions League double-header with former club Tottenham Hotspur as a result of a calf injury.

The 28-year-old has already been ruled out of Wales's crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland having picked up the problem on the back of injuring his hamstring during last week's 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Guardian now reports that Bale could miss up to four weeks with the injury, which would see him miss both legs against Spurs.

Madrid host Tottenham at the Bernabeu on October 17 - a match Bale now looks certain to miss - while his return to North London was due to come on November 1.

However, the former world's most expensive player faces a race to be fit in time for that return fixture and could even be a doubt for any World Cup qualifying playoff Wales may find themselves in.

Bale scored 55 goals in 203 appearances for Tottenham before joining Madrid in 2013.
