Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte admits that he has been given "bad news" over the injury that Cristian Romero suffered during the international break.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has admitted that there is "bad news" over the injury that Cristian Romero sustained during the international break.

The 23-year-old went down after 53 minutes of Argentina's World Cup Qualifying draw with a hamstring problem, and subsequent reports have claimed that he could be facing a three-week spell on the sidelines.

Romero will certainly not be involved in Sunday's Premier League battle with Leeds United, but Conte has suggested that the centre-back's layoff may be longer than first feared.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-game press conference, Conte said: "We've bad news about Cristian Romero about his injury. I spoke to the doctors and now it's to wait 7-10 days for another scan to see how long it will take him to recover."

The Italian also revealed that Giovani Lo Celso was a doubt for the clash with the Whites, adding: "Giovani Lo Celso didn't come back perfectly physically and I don't know about him if he's available. Romero isn't available then there's the rest of the team."

The Lilywhites will also make do without the suspended Oliver Skipp for Sunday's game, with either Tanguy Ndombele or Harry Winks poised to replace him.
