Karl Robinson: 'Dele Alli can play for England'

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson believes that Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dele Alli could be a "wildcard" selection for England ahead of Euro 2016.

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli could be called up by England manager Roy Hodgson for Euro 2016.

The 19-year-old joined Spurs from the Dons in January 2015, and made his debut for the North London club in a 1-0 defeat by Manchester United last month after completing a loan spell at his former side.

Milton Keynes-born Alli has made six appearances so far this season, scoring one goal, and his former manager believes that he could be a "wildcard" option for next summer's tournament.

"As a wildcard Dele ticks a number of boxes," Robinson told Sky Sports News. "He can play down the left, play at No.10, No.8 and can also sit in midfield and dictate the game from deep.

"I've seen most of the games, and he's played in a number of positions. I think being versatile as a young player aids your minutes on pitch, and that's where he's got a bit of an advantage. He can be as good as he wants to be.

"He's very, very level-headed. If you didn't know Dele he could be perceived as different things, but he's very calm and very together mentally."

Alli has made two appearances for England Under-21s.
