How Spain could line up against Malta

Sports Mole looks at how Spain could line up in Friday's Euro 2020 qualifier with Malta.

Spain's penultimate Euro 2020 qualification fixture will see them face Malta in Cadiz on Friday night.

La Roja have already booked their spot in next summer's finals courtesy of a strong campaign that has seen them win six and draw two of their eight matches to top Group F.

Robert Moreno's side recorded a 2-0 win over Malta in the reverse match back in March.

That said, the 2010 World champions will enter Friday's match off the back of successive draws with Norway and Sweden in their last two qualifiers.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Spain could line up against Group F's bottom team.

POSS SPA XI vs. MAL

The fact that Spain have already qualified means that Moreno is likely to shuffle his pack for Friday's fixture.

Pau Torres and Dani Olmo have impressed for Villarreal and Dinamo Zagreb respectively this season and should both win their first caps, while Napoli's Fabian Ruiz is likely to feature in the middle of the park.

Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Adama Traore had been set to play a part having been called up to the senior squad for the first time, but the former Barcelona youngster had to withdraw due to an injury.

Further forward, Alvaro Morata, Paco Alcacer and Gerard Moreno are seemingly battling for the central position, although the former might just get the nod having scored in his last six appearances for Atletico Madrid.

The likes of Diego Costa, Jordi Alba, Koke, Dani Ceballos and Isco have all been left out of the squad, meaning that Santi Cazorla should again feature in midfield, while Jose Gaya could be handed the left-back spot.

The other main talking point surrounds the goalkeeping position, with Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga hoping to get the nod over Manchester United's David de Gea, which looks likely to be the case.
