Ronald Koeman: 'Shane Long will justify price tag'

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman insists that striker Shane Long will fire this season following his £12m move from Hull City.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is adamant that striker Shane Long will justify his £12m price tag this season.

The Saints splashed the cash to sign the Republic of Ireland international from Hull City to lead the line following the departure of Rickie Lambert.

Koeman told reporters: "It is of course important Shane gets his first goal and that is the same for every striker. They live on goals.

"They are happy if the team is winning and they are happy with their own performance but the best feeling for strikers is scoring.

"I think he can get double figures. We are happy to have Shane in our squad and we paid that amount for him as we believe in the qualities of the player."

Southampton take on West Ham United in the Premier League later today.
