Weather causes havoc with fixtures

Heavy snowfall across Northern England and Scotland leads to several fixtures being postponed.

Heavy snow has led to several matches in League One, League Two and Scotland being postponed, with more matches expected to follow.

Some parts of Northern England and Scotland have seen at least 10cm of snow fall overnight, and pitch inspections are being held at the majority of grounds in that part of Great Britain.

The League One clash between Sheffield United and Brentford was called off at around 9am after Yorkshire received at least six inches of snow, while the match between Shrewsbury Town and Oldham Athletic was also cancelled because of the weather conditions.

Matches further South also suffered, as Colchester United's home match with MK Dons and Crawley Town's game with Crewe Alexandra both failed morning pitch inspections.

In League Two, two fixtures in Staffordshire were quickly postponed, with both Burton Albion's match with Wycombe Wanderers and Port Vale's encounter with Aldershot Town falling victim to the weather.

It didn't take long for more matches to suffer the same fate, with Plymouth Argyle, Southend United and Exeter City being spared the trips to Chesterfield, Rochdale and Rotherham United respectively.

In Scotland, five Scottish Football League games were also early casualties.

League One:
