Scotland, USA play out stalemate

Scotland and USA play out a stalemate as both teams cancel each other out in an international friendly at Hampden Park.

Scotland have missed the opportunity to register three successive victories for the first time since 2007 having being held to a 0-0 draw with USA at Hampden Park tonight.

The Scots, who ended their World Cup qualifying campaign with wins over Macedonia and Croatia respectively, were on the back foot for various spells throughout the clash but both failed to take any of their chances.

Gordon Strachan's men enjoyed much of the possession early on and should have gone ahead midway through the first half, but Craig Conway, with an acre of space in front of goal, slid his effort narrowly wide.

Such was the poverty of USA's labours throughout the opening half, Jozy Altidore came closest for the visitors by blazing into Row Z from just outside the area.

The Sunderland striker came closer in the second half, thumping just wide of goalkeeper David Marshall's post.

Both struggled in their efforts to find the winner and Strachan and Jurgen Klinsmann were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
