Hull City defender Paul McShane has been drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad to face Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday.
The call-up comes after manager Giovanni Trapattoni acknowledged a lack of defensive options available to him following a number of injuries.
Sean St Ledger, Richard Dunne and John O'Shea are all doubts for the game, forcing Trapattoni to turn to his Euro 2012 stand-by list.
A Football Association of Ireland spokesman said: "Paul McShane has been called in as an additional player to the squad to provide extra cover in defence.
"All other players remain in the squad. Paul will join up with the squad in Portmarnock this evening."
McShane has previously won 26 caps for the national team.
