James Rodriguez "always wanted" Real Madrid

Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez says that he has "always wanted" to be at the Bernabeu after scoring in Sunday's 2-0 win over Espanyol.

James Rodriguez has insisted that he has never wanted to leave Real Madrid despite enduring a difficult 12 months with the Spanish giants.

The Colombian international struggled for first-team football at the Bernabeu last season and also started the new campaign out of the team under Zinedine Zidane despite the absences of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

The 25-year-old capped his first start of the season with a goal against Espanyol on Sunday, however, and the attacker has said that he has "a very good relationship with Zidane" despite rumours of unrest.

"I've not had a hard time, I've had the support of everyone, including the coach. I have a very good relationship with Zidane. We're a close-knit team that always want to keep winning. I'm one more player and I've always wanted to be here," James told reporters.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing a January swoop for James, who joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco in 2014 off the back of an impressive World Cup for Colombia.
