How Real Madrid could line up against Borussia Monchengladbach

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Real Madrid will be looking to end a run of three straight defeats in the Champions League when they continue their 2020-21 campaign away to Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday night.

Los Blancos lost twice to Manchester City in the last-16 stage of last season's European competition before suffering a 3-2 defeat at home to Shakhtar Donetsk in their Group B opener last week.

Zinedine Zidane's side will enter the match off the back of a positive result, though, having recorded a 3-1 victory away to Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday afternoon.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Madrid could line up in Germany.

Madrid will again be without the services of Dani Carvajal, Martin Odegaard, Mariano Diaz and Alvaro Odriozola through injury, while Nacho has missed out on a spot in the squad due to the injury that he picked up against Barca on Saturday afternoon.

Lucas Vazquez is therefore expected to get the nod at right-back, although there is the option of moving Ferland Mendy to the right and reinstating Marcelo at left-back.

Eden Hazard has also been surprisingly named in the travelling squad, although it would be a surprise to see the Belgium international thrown straight back into the XI due to his injury problems.

In an ideal situation, Zidane would want to rest some key players during a busy period, but the importance of this match means that the likes of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Casemiro and Karim Benzema have to play.

There is every chance that the Madrid boss will keep with the majority of the side that impressively overcame Barca in El Clasico, with Federico Valverde again being preferred to Luka Modric.

Zidane has options for change in the final third of the field, with Rodrygo Goes, Isco and Luka Jovic all pushing for spots in the starting XI.

However, Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio are both expected to retain their spots in the attack alongside Benzema, who has only scored once in seven appearances in all competitions this term.
