Reading come from behind to defeat Portsmouth 2-1 in the League Cup.

Reading have come from a goal down to beat Portsmouth 2-1 in the League Cup.

Neither side had a shot on target in the first 20 minutes, with Nick Blackman and Jayden Stockley both missing the target for their respective clubs.

Stephen Quinn had a go in the 18th minute but shot high and wide from long range, before Simon Cox's shot was blocked.

Portsmouth's Conor Chaplin finally tested Ali Al-Habsi in the 26th minute, but his shot was straight at the Oman international.

Hal Robson-Kanu then stung the hands of Paul Jones from long range.

Chaplin gave Portsmouth a shock lead in the 40th minute when he finished into the bottom right corner from a tight angle.

Pompey began the second half strongly and shots from Matthew Clarke and Adam McGurk were saved.

The score was levelled in the 63rd minute when Nick Blakeman found the bottom left corner.

Kyle Bennett then saw his shot saved as Portsmouth tried to regain the lead.

It was not meant to be for Portsmouth though, as Garath McCleary netted from six yards with just six minutes remaining.
