Preview: Wealdstone vs. Queens Park Rangers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's pre-season clash between Wealdstone and Queens Park Rangers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Queens Park Rangers will continue their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a pre-season friendly against National League outfit Wealdstone on Tuesday night.

The Hoops are building towards their Championship opener against Blackburn Rovers on July 30, while Wealdstone will start their National League season at home to Bromley on August 6.

Match preview

Wealdstone finished 16th in the National League last season, boasting a record of 14 wins, 11 draws and 19 defeats from 44 matches, which brought them a total of 53 points.

The Stones will again play in the fifth tier of English football in 2022-23, and they have already played four friendlies this summer, opening their preparations for the new campaign with back-to-back wins over Hendon and Slough Town, scoring six times in the process.

Wealdstone then played out a 4-4 draw with Beaconsfield Town on July 11 before suffering a 1-0 loss to Charlton Athletic Under-23s on Saturday afternoon.

Stuart Maynard's side will take on QPR, Bedford Town, Billericay Town and Chelmsford City in their final four friendlies of the summer before opening their National League campaign at home to Bromley on August 6.

The Royals have been extremely busy this summer in terms of incomings, with Sam Habergham, Lewis Kinsella and Sam Howes among the players to join the club on free transfers.

QPR, meanwhile, are working towards their Championship opener against Blackburn on July 30, with the club looking to improve on the 2021-22 season, which saw them finish 11th in the second tier.

Michael Beale is now the first-team manager of the London club, and the 41-year-old has overseen three friendlies this summer, including the 1-1 draw with Hallescher FC on Saturday.

QPR have also drawn with Crawley Town and beaten Zwickau this summer, and they now only have two more friendlies against Wealdstone and Crystal Palace before heading to Blackburn on July 30.

Rangers have been relatively quiet this summer in terms of incomings, with Jake Clarke-Salter and Kenneth Paal both arriving on free transfers, while Tyler Roberts has joined on loan from Leeds United.

A number of players have moved on since the end of last season, though, including Jordy de Wijs, Charlie Austin, Dominic Ball, Lee Wallace and David Marshall.

Team News

Wealdstone are likely to again have some trial players on display in this match, with a number of individuals currently looking to earn contracts at the National League side.

Head coach Maynard will make changes from the side that started against Charlton Under-23s last time out, with Alex Dyer among those pushing to come into the side.

There could also be a spot in the side for Malachi Napa, who has arrived at the club from Maldon & Tiptree this summer.

As for QPR, Ossie Kakay, Rob Dickie, Clarke-Salter and Paal could again line up at the back, with head coach Beale tipped to again select a 4-3-3 formation.

Andre Dozzell could again get the nod in midfield alongside the captain Stefan Johansen, but there might be a change in the final third of the field, with Lyndon Dykes potentially coming back into the side.

Ilias Chair could be the player to drop down to the bench before potentially featuring in the second period, but Albert Adomah should again be in the first XI on Tuesday night.

Wealdstone possible starting lineup:
Hows; Sesay, Cook, Habergham, Hearn; Ferguson, Dyer, Young, Allarakhia; Napa, Hutchinson

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Dieng; Kakay, Dickie, Clarke-Salter, Paal; Johansen, Field, Dozzell; Adomah, Dykes, Bonne

We say: Wealdstone 1-3 Queens Park Rangers

Both managers will see this match as valuable preparation for the new campaign, and Wealdstone should be competitive opposition for QPR. The away side will have the superior quality, though, and we are fully expecting Beale's side to emerge victorious in this pre-season clash.
