Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe equals a goalscoring record set by Lionel Messi with his last-gasp winner against Rennes in Friday's Ligue 1 clash.

Kylian Mbappe has equalled a goalscoring record set by Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi with his late winner against Rennes in Friday's Ligue 1 clash.

Mauricio Pochettino's side struggled to break down the resolute Rouges et Noir, with Mbappe already seeing one strike on the night ruled out for offside before injury time.

However, the 23-year-old was picked out by Messi on the left-hand side in the dying embers of the encounter and managed to curl the ball around Warmed Omari and past the outstretched arm of Dogan Alemdar.

Mbappe's last-gasp winner against Rennes marked his 119th Ligue 1 strike, with Messi currently holding the record of 119 goals in one of Europe's top five leagues before his 24th birthday.

With Mbappe not celebrating turning 24 until December, the ex-Monaco man is sure to break the Argentine's long-standing record, be it at PSG or Real Madrid.

The World Cup winner has already struck 21 goals and provided 16 assists in 31 appearances across all tournaments this season and is set to take on admirers Real Madrid in the Champions League next week.

Mbappe is still widely expected to complete a free transfer to the Bernabeu this summer, but Pochettino has revealed that the striker will not make a decision on his future before March.
