Olympiacos boss takes blame for Paris Saint-Germain loss

Michel says that Olympiacos's poor defending from corners during their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League is all his fault.

Olympiacos manager Michel has insisted that he is to blame for his side's poor defensive display against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

The Greek champions conceded three times from corners in the second half which resulted in a 4-1 loss in Athens in their opening match of the new Champions League campaign.

Despite Andreas Samaris failing to track Thiago Motta on two separate occasions, Michel is adamant that it is all his own fault.

"I wasn't expecting the goals," Michel told reporters. "If you watched them, you might rush to blame Samaris, but I won't.

"He had a great match in the first half and the way the game unfolded was very cruel on the lad. I'm to blame for the goals because I told the players who to mark.

"The fans applauded the players because they recognised their efforts. They saw a team they liked but they also saw a heavy defeat."

Vladimir Weiss had cancelled out Edinson Cavani's opener, before a Motta brace and a Marquinhos header secured the win for the Ligue 1 holders.
