Yohan Cabaye admits fears over France recall

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye admits that he feared things would have changed for France ahead of his international recall this week.

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has admitted that his recall to the French national side this week came with a mix of excitement and fear.

Cabaye was left out of the France squad for last month's World Cup qualifiers because of not featuring for Newcastle early this season, after a proposed move to Arsenal failed to materialise.

France boss Didier Deschamps has brought Cabaye back into the fold for upcoming games against Australia and Finland, with the playmaker admitting that being left out was tough to take.

He told reporters: "I missed it a lot. I was behind the team but it's not easy to stay at home when the national team is playing.

"When you're not there, you're scared to go back because things change so quickly. And even when you're there, there is no security. They played good games without me.

"But I'm here now and I will try to do my best."

The 27-year-old faces stiff competition to win a starting place in midfield for Les Blues, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Blaise Matuidi and Geoffrey Kondogbia available to Deschamps.
