Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has urged full-back Danny Simpson to sign a new contract with the club as soon as possible.
The Tyneside club have been in talks with the 24-year-old who is yet to sign on the dotted line.
"We've made Danny an offer which I think is a good offer, if I'm honest," Pardew told the Sunday Sun.
"He's keeping out Davide Santon, who we've paid very good money for; he's a new father, he's doing particularly well. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener and I would advise him to get his contract done ASAP."
Pardew's back four have the strongest defence in the league, having only conceded 11 times this season.
"Danny needs to remember he's playing and getting valuable experience in the best defence in the Premier League," added Pardew.
The Magpies lost their unbeaten record by going down to table-toppers Manchester City at the Etihad yesterday.
