Former Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that Premier League survival for his former club this season would be nothing short of a "miracle".

Former Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Premier League survival for his former club this season would be nothing short of a "miracle".

The Magpies currently sit 14th in the table, three points above the relegation zone, and face a daunting trip to league leaders Manchester City next weekend.

In addition, Newcastle have not won at home since October and were unable to beat basement side Swansea City on Saturday, having to settle for a 1-1 draw in the North-East.

"I don't think there has ever been a time in the Premier League era where teams are looking forward to going to St James' Park more than they are now," Jenas told BBC Sport.

"You have got to be realistic and this Newcastle side are not a top team. It is really not.

"If they remain in the Premier League this year it is a miracle as far as I am concerned. When I look at them individually and if Rafael Benitez wasn't there, they would 100% go down."

Despite their home woes, Newcastle have won two and drawn two of their last six league games.
