Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse has undergone knee surgery that will see him spend a prolonged period on the sidelines.
Cisse suffered a fractured patella during the club's 2-1 defeat to Swansea City last month, and the Magpies have confirmed that the Senegalese forward has been forced to have an operation to repair the damage.
An official statement revealed that Cisse would be sidelined for "a number of months", meaning that he is unlikely to be fit for the start of next season.
The 28-year-old has scored just four goals in 27 appearances during the current campaign.
