Aurelio De Laurentiis: 'Juventus wanted Marek Hamsik'

Napoli's president claims that Italian champions Juventus tabled a bid for captain Marek Hamsik in the summer.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has claimed that Juventus tried to sign Marek Hamsik in the recent transfer window.

The Slovakian and many of his teammates had been linked with an exit from the club over the summer, but De Laurentiis has revealed that he was unwilling to let any of their best players leave.

"This is a team which has kept its stars," he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. "We had offers totalling €98m (£72m), not including [Gonzalo] Higuain, not selling them is the same as if I had bought players worth that much.

"I offered [Roma sporting director Walter] Sabatini €28m (£20.7m) for [Alessio] Romagnoli, who then sold him [to Milan] for €3m less than previously discussed.

"Juventus wanted Hamsik for €25m (£18.5m), I asked them for [Stefano] Sturaro and [Daniele] Rugani and they refused... they got Hernanes instead."

Hamsik has spent the past eight years at Napoli following his move from Brescia in June 2007.
