Roma are reportedly preparing to step up their interest in Chris Smalling as they aim to strike a deal for the Manchester United defender as soon as possible.
Smalling has been in impressive form for the Italian club since arriving on loan from United last summer.
Roma have said on a number of occasions that they want to sign the Englishman on a permanent deal, and according to Corriere della Sera, the Serie A giants are now ready to step up their pursuit of his services.
The report, though, claims that Paulo Fonseca's side are still not prepared to pay United's asking price for the 30-year-old, which is believed to stand in the region of £25m.
Smalling, who is allegedly prepared to accept a pay cut to secure a permanent move to Rome, is also believed to be the subject of interest from Arsenal.
The centre-back's current deal at Old Trafford will run until the summer of 2022.
