Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling would accept a pay cut to join Roma on a permanent deal this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling would reportedly be willing to accept a pay cut in order to join Roma on a permanent deal this summer.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Roma and has impressed for the Italian outfit this season, contributing two goals in 28 appearances in all competitions.

The Serie A side have said on a number of occasions that they want to sign the defender on a permanent deal, although Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have also been credited with an interest.

According to Sky Italy, Smalling is keen to join Roma on a long-term basis this summer and would be prepared to drop his wages to complete a move.

United, though, could allegedly demand as much as £32m for the former Fulham youngster as he still has more than two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford.

The Englishman, who has remained in Rome despite the coronavirus lockdown, will allegedly not make a final decision on his future until the summer.
