Roma have launched a surprise bid for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani, according to Italian media.
The Serie A side are eyeing up the Uruguayan as a replacement for Edin Dzeko, who is rumoured to be on his way out of the Stadio Olimpico this summer.
Cavani moved to United last summer after seven years at Paris Saint-Germain and scored 17 goals in 39 appearances in his debut campaign at Old Trafford, becoming a key player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
With his original one-year deal expiring, the 34-year-old signed a contract extension in May following rumours that Boca Juniors were interested in signing him.
However his future with the Red Devils may now not be so secure, because according to Calciomercato, there is a "basic agreement" in place between Roma and Cavani regarding a possible transfer.
The report adds that the club's general manager Tiago Pinto is "strongly probing" the striker, but that United will ask for a fee.
Cavani has experience of playing in Serie A with Palermo and Napoli, where he netted 141 goals combined.
