Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Napoli midfielder Jorginho in an effort to beat the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool to his signature this summer.
Jorginho has been linked with some of the Premier League's biggest clubs as a result of his performances this season, scoring three goals in 30 appearances to help Napoli up to second in the Serie A table.
The 26-year-old was part of the Italy side which took on Argentina in an international friendly at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium on Friday night, and Rai Sport reports that United sent representatives to meet with Jorginho's agent Joao Santos after the game.
Liverpool had been leading the race for the midfielder's signature prior to Friday's friendly, but United have now tried to leapfrog their bitter rivals in the pecking order by making contact with the player.
United boss Jose Mourinho is looking at options to bolster his midfield strength due to the impending retirement of Michael Carrick and expected departure of Marouane Fellaini, in addition to questions over the form of Paul Pogba.
However, Napoli are reluctant to lose Jorginho and would demand a fee of at least £50m before they consider selling the midfielder.
