Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano signs for Red Bull Salzburg

Manchester United transfer target Dayot Upamecano signs for Red Bull Salzburg.

Sixteen-year-old defender Dayot Upamecano has rejected Manchester United in favour of a move to Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg.

Manchester United had reportedly agreed a deal to sign Upamecano from French club Valenciennes, but Salzburg confirmed the signing on their official website.

"Dayot decided to join us despite getting offers from some top European clubs," Salzburg head of football Christoph Freundsn said.

"That makes us very proud and shows that we have already made a name for ourselves internationally in the field of developing talent.

"He has enormous potential, and we are sure that he will settle in quickly with us."

Valenciennes will receive a fee of £1.6m, according to L'Equipe.
