Nottingham Forest transfer news: Netherlands international 'added' to shortlist?

Nottingham Forest reportedly add a Netherlands international to their list of possible attacking additions before the end of the summer transfer window.

Nottingham Forest have reportedly switched their attention to another forward plying his trade in the Eredivisie.

With Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi at his disposal down the centre of Forest's attack, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has two proven options in that area of the pitch.

Forest's numerous playmakers can also operate as false nines, yet speculation has persisted in recent weeks over a third frontline striker arriving at the City Ground.

Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah appears in line to join a different Premier League side, while a bid has been rejected for Brentford's Yoane Wissa.

Furthermore, Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez is said to be in two minds over whether to leave a Champions League club for a lower-end Premier League team.

Another Eredivisie player on radar

According to The Mirror, that has led to Forest officials giving consideration to making a late bid for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.

The Netherlands international has consistently been linked with a move to England's top flight, albeit with clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, a transfer to either the Emirates Stadium or Old Trafford has not come close to fruition, leaving the 22-year-old to contemplate the next phase of his career if a formal bid arrives.

Brobbey has failed to net in his opening 121 minutes of action this campaign, spread across five appearances, after his late return on the back of Netherlands reaching the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

Nevertheless, he had credit in the bank after his 18 goals and 10 assists from just 30 league outings in 2023-24, form that ultimately promoted him up the pecking order with his country.

Holding a contract until 2027, neither the player or Ajax have to rush a decision on his future, although a sale would significantly improve Ajax's chances of strengthening their squad over the coming days.

Repeat story likely?

Ajax look highly likely to qualify for the Europa League group stages, providing Brobbey with a clear reason to remain at the Dutch giants until January at the very least.

Francesco Farioli's side have only accumulated three points from their opening two league games, yet the ninth-placed side have a match in hand on many of the teams above them.

The main concern for Brobbey will be that he is not guaranteed to be a first-choice pick at Forest, even if they have only netted twice against Bournemouth and Southampton respectively.

In theory, there are more reasons for Brobbey to stay put - like Gimenez seemingly will - in the Eredivisie than join a team currently focused on achieving Premier League survival over challenging for Europe.
