Dean Henderson 'to sign new Manchester United deal'

Manchester United will reportedly sign goalkeeper Dean Henderson to a new deal then send him back out on loan to Premier League newcomers Sheffield United.

Manchester United will reportedly tie down goalkeeper Dean Henderson to a new deal before loaning him back out to Sheffield United for the upcoming campaign.

The 22-year-old was an ever-present for the Blades last season as they earned promotion back to the Premier League with the Championship's joint-best defence.

Henderson kept a league-high 21 clean sheets during the season, impressing the United hierarchy enough to offer him a new long-term contract.

Sheffield manager Chris Wilder is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "Dean made it clear to us that he has a very strong interest in coming back to Bramall Lane, and Manchester United are happy to go along with that. He wants his United contract sorted out first of all but, in terms of putting another temporary deal in place, I think we're in a good place with that one.

"United are pleased with what happened when he came here, with the way his game developed and the way he progressed over the course of the year. He's rated very highly at Old Trafford and you can understand why. Dean was outstanding for us last season and being able to bring him back again for another year would be brilliant."

United could still opt against sending Henderson back to Sheffield if they change their transfer stance and decide to sell David de Gea this summer.
