Barcelona have reportedly earmarked Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech as an alternative target to Manchester City's Ferran Torres in January.
Xavi is understood to have identified Torres as his number one target when the transfer window reopens next month, with personal terms having reportedly already been agreed.
Barcelona are currently in talks with Man City over a transfer fee for the Spaniard as the deal nears completion, although the two parties remain around £8.5m apart in negotiations.
The La Liga outfit have tabled a €50m (£42.7m) bid for Torres, whereas Man City are holding out for closer to €60m (£51.2m).
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Barcelona are still hopeful of completing a deal for Torres, but that they have also lined up Ziyech as a 'Plan B'.
The cash-strapped Catalans will only pursue the Chelsea winger if their talks with Torres break down, but Ziyech is thought to be open to a move to Camp Nou if the opportunity comes along.
Barca have also been linked with moves for a number of Manchester United forwards, including Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
