Manchester United's Ashley Young not concerned by diving reputation

Manchester United winger Ashley Young insists that he is not concerned by the reputation of diving that he has acquired.

Manchester United winger Ashley Young has insisted that he is not worried about his reputation for diving.

The 28-year-old England international has often been criticised for going down to ground too easily under pressure from opposition defenders.

"It's been talked about obviously by the previous manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) and the current manager (David Moyes), but that's in-house," The Mirror quotes him as saying. "I'm not going to comment on what's been said.

"I don't take notice of the headlines or the debates. That's obviously for the media to debate, for people to have their say - and everyone is entitled to have their say on it.

"For me, the referees have made decisions and that's it. I think it's one to ask the referees. They're the ones who are giving free kicks and penalties."

Young added that everyone should accept the decisions taken by referees.

"I remember getting booked against [Crystal] Palace and then winning a penalty," he said.

"Against Real Sociedad, it was another penalty that was given. Referees have got tough decisions to make.

"They have a tough, tough time out there making decisions, but they have made the right decisions, I think."

Young joined United from Aston Villa in 2011.
