Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is facing a spell on the sidelines with a sinus problem.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney missed last night's match against Reading with "a sinus infection".

The England international arrived at training over the weekend, only to be sent home to recuperate.

"He has a sinus infection, he came in on Sunday morning and he wasn't well. We sent him home, so he's still in his bed," Ferguson told ESPN.

Ferguson went on to confirm that the centre-forward will be monitored ahead of this Saturday's trip to Queens Park Rangers.
