Neville: Ferguson won't dwell on Euro exit

Gary Neville believes that Sir Alex Ferguson will be focused on Manchester United's upcoming fixtures following their shock exit from the Champions League.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville is confident that Sir Alex Ferguson will move on from the Red Devils' "huge disappointment" of exiting the Champions League at the group stage.

The Premier League champions suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Basel in Switzerland last night, ending hopes of reaching a second consecutive Champions League final.

While the 69-year-old has admitted his discontent at being knocked out in the early stages of the European competition, Neville believes that Ferguson has been through worse before.

"I was part of the last one where we didn't qualify from the group phase and at that point he felt it couldn't get any lower," Neville said on Sky Sports. "He hadn't won the league for three years. But he'll just react, they have to react.

"That's what he'll be thinking, how do we navigate through these next few fixtures and react from that huge disappointment? He'll not be thinking that's it. I just don't see that. He's been through so much before."

The North West side will now compete in the Europa League alongside Manchester City, who also failed to reach the knockout stage.
